Matt Dolan

Matt Dolan has decades of experience in tax policy and tax practice, and has worked extensively on major tax policy initiatives as both an attorney in private practice and a U.S. Senate staff attorney.
 
Prior to joining ACG, Matt was a Director at the Federal Policy Group, a leading Washington tax policy boutique, from 2007-2015, and was a partner at the law firm of Baker Hostetler from 1995-2007, where he both led the firm’s legislative group and chaired its Washington tax practice.  At both firms, he represented leading businesses from around the world, including many Fortune 100 companies, in various tax matters, including litigation, regulatory issues, and an extensive range of tax legislative and policy matters.
 
As a Senate staff attorney, Matt worked as Finance Committee Counsel for former Senator David Durenberger (R-MN), a Finance Committee member, and was responsible for all issues within the Committee’s jurisdiction, including tax, trade, and health care matters. 
 
Matt’s clients have  included major financial institutions, private equity interests, manufacturers, technology companies, real estate investment trusts, insurance companies, technology companies, hospitality industry entities, entertainment industry companies, and higher education institutions, among others.  Matt has worked directly with those entities, as well as with numerous trade associations representing their interests.
 
Matt also founded, and continues to lead, the Global Teaching Project, an entity that provides a platform for great teachers from around the world to provide high quality instruction to learners everywhere, regardless of their means or circumstances, with an initial focus on advanced-level secondary school subject matter.
 
In addition to his professional duties, Matt has served in a volunteer capacity for many charitable, philanthropic, and public service entities.  He has been an officer and director of the Todd Wagner Foundation since its founding over a decade ago; over that period the Foundation has donated tens of millions of dollars to various philanthropic initiatives, with a particular focus on expanding educational opportunity to underserved youth.  For over 20 years, Matt has been a board member of Archbishop Carroll High School, a college preparatory school operated by the Catholic Archdiocese of Washington that serves as a means for many students of limited means but high aspirations to achieve better lives for themselves and their families.  Since 2005, Matt has served on the board of the Archdiocesan Catholic Charities Immigrant Services program, which provides medical, vocational, and other support to recent immigrants and others seeking assistance.  Matt also served from 2003-2007 on the Maryland State Council on Child Abuse and Neglect, a gubernatorial appointment. 
 
Matt is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law and Yale College.  Matt is president and a board member of the Yale Club of Washington.  Since 2004, Matt has taken a leading role in implementing the Yale Club’s Community Service Summer Fellows Program, which sponsors Yale undergraduates to serve in various Washington-area community service organizations.
 
Matt and his wife, MaryEllen, have four children and live in Maryland.
